Dream Building Series no.1 : A Room With A View, 2021
Dimensions: 44 inches x 31 inches
Medium: Charcoal, oil pastels and oil paints on unstretched linen canvas fabric
Description:
This painting is a visual exploration of repressed emotions pertaining to the end of a relationship. The composition was created by channeling my unconscious using the technique of automatic drawing. Each element in this painting alludes to a personal symbol to represent various intangibles. The distorted figure and picture plane allude to the malleable nature of reality and the lens through which we perceive it. Here, the process of Dream Building is present in the act of taking a lived experience and using it as a tool to confront the unknown aspects of the Self.
The bizarre nature of the composition allows for building new narratives and making meaning of the absurd. The viewer is encouraged to become aware of how their understanding of this work provides insight into their own subjective perception of reality.

Dream Building Series no.2 : The Bringer of Dreams, 2021
Dimensions: 44 inches x 31 inches
Medium: Charcoal and oil paints on unstretched linen canvas fabric
Description:
This painting is the personification of the psychic abstractions that influence and birth a dream. The peculiar dreamscape signifies the unknown terrain of my subconscious while the mythical creatures I’ve created signify the hidden messages coded into a dream in the form of heightened emotions and the warping of reality.
Each element in this painting is the result of automatic drawing. I used the process of Dream Building to visualize and condense the elusive aspects of my mind so as to gain clarity and objectivity. The resulting images that arose from my depths revealed aspects of my Self that can only be understood through abstractions.

Dream Building Series no.3 : Mother Moth
Dimensions: 44 inches x 31 inches
Medium: Black ink, charcoal, oil pastels and oil paints on unstretched linen canvas fabric
Description:
This painting is a self portrait. I am the moth is portrayed reaching for the light in a small, claustrophobic room. I am also every other element in the room (similar to the notion that all aspects of a dream are aspects of the dreamer). I deemed it fitting to conclude this 3-part series that dives into my unconscious with the portrayal of me integrating my shadow and light aspects.
The elements depicted contain personal symbols; however, the viewer is encouraged to make their own associations in order to gain insight into how their minds assign meaning to images that do not necessarily contain them. The narratives we spin about that which we do not fully understand are ripe with personal truths.
